Now that Christmas is over and we’re all partied out, you may have noticed everyone’s talking about ‘detoxing’ and ‘cleansing’ after indulging in festive fun. But the truth is, your body’s pretty good at detoxing all on its own!
Your body will naturally eliminate toxins through the lungs, liver, skin, digestive system and kidneys.1https://www.healthline.com/nutrition/how-to-detox-your-body As long as these organs are healthy and functioning well, they can effectively rid of unwanted nasties in the system. But after more sugar, stress and Buck’s Fizz than usual, we recommend boosting your body’s natural detoxing powers with these tips – note, it’s all about ‘adding in’ rather than ‘taking away’ – now that’s my kinda ‘detox’!
1. Prioritise sleep
A consistent seven to nine hours of good sleep will help support your body’s detoxification system and overall health.2https://www.cdc.gov/sleep/about_sleep/how_much_sleep.html Sleeping allows your brain to recharge and remove toxic waste byproducts that accumulate throughout the day.3https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC7698404/ Struggling to get that all-important, good-quality snooze? Check out our article, 6 steps to a great night’s sleep.
2. Eat antioxidant-rich foods
Exposure to free radicals (unstable molecules) can damage your body’s cells – this is known as ‘oxidative stress’ and is linked to a number of diseases.4https://www.nccih.nih.gov/health/antioxidant-supplements-what-you-need-to-know Certain foods contain compounds called antioxidants that help protect the body from free radicals, reducing damage caused by oxidation.
The best sources of antioxidant foods are plant-based. Try including more grean, leafy vegetables, berries, artichokes, nuts, seeds, whole grains, herbs and spices in your diet.
3. Focus on gut health
Good gut health is essential for keeping your detoxification system functioning effectively. Poor diet, antibiotics, stress and environmental toxins can all negatively affect your inner ecosystem causing gut dysbiosis (imbalance). This can weaken your immune system and natural detoxing powers, and increase inflammation.5https://www.frontiersin.org/articles/10.3389/fendo.2021.667066/full
The good news is, you can remedy it! Boost your gut health and support your inner ecosystem with synbiotics. A synbiotic is a combination of probiotics and prebiotics that work together to provide health benefits. Probiotics are live microorganisms that provide a health benefit when consumed in adequate amounts, while prebiotics are non-digestible fibers that serve as food for the beneficial bacteria in the gut. Chuckling Goat’s Probiotic Kefir and Complete Prebiotic create a synergy that is exponentially powerful, chemical-free and contained in its own food matrix.
Looking to take your gut health to the next level? Chuckling Goat’s Microbiome Test, created in partnership with Cambridge University, will analyse the trillions of bacteria living inside your gut. Your results are accompanied by a consultation with a trained Nutritional Therapist who will explain the results to you, answer all your questions and create a Personalised Action Plan, to help you begin to improve your gut health immediately.
4. Stay hydrated
The Eatwell Guide recommends drinking at least 6-8 glasses of water every day.6https://www.nhs.uk/live-well/eat-well/food-guidelines-and-food-labels/water-drinks-nutrition/ Ensuring you stay hydrated is vital for toxins in your body to be regularly ‘flushed out’. You can read more about how much water you should be drinking and why, here.
5. Drink Gut Cleanse Tea
Chuckling Goat’s Gut Cleanse Tea contains natural medicinal herbs, designed to boost your ‘cleansing’ and gut-healing process. Dandelion root is antimicrobial and has been shown effective against certain strains of bacteria that are responsible for staph infections and food-borne illness.7https://draxe.com/nutrition/dandelion-root/ Burdock root contains active ingredients that have been found to detoxify heavy metals from the blood, improving organ health and the health of the whole body,8https://draxe.com/nutrition/burdock-root/ while Yellow dock root has proven antioxidant properties, leading to its long-standing use in traditional medicine to combat gastrointestinal infections9https://www.researchgate.net/publication/
Like any cleanse, our Gut Cleanse Tea should be taken for a limited period of treatment. You may drink three cups daily, for 21 days.
Ditch the conventional detox and get ready for a healthy New Year, the natural way 🙂
